I first joined the diabetes online community in 2016 after graduating college, I wanted to learn more about actually living with this diagnosis. What didn’t I know? This community had been being built for years – even before Instagram and TikTok made their way as platforms. Meet Kerri Sparling, the author of Six Until Me: Essays from a life with diabetes. Kerri created her blog after being diagnosed with diabetes in 1986 and wanting to share connections throughout the T1D community. She has now inspired others to do the same. Inside this episode, we discuss our diagnoses in different generations and how we get to choose how we engage and share in the online space.
Exercising with diabetes carries more variables, more considerations and more questions. One of the most common questions I get on working out and managing blood sugars is “what should I eat before to mitigate low blood sugars?”. Pizza.. the epitome of every diabetic.. but what if it didn’t have to be? Pizza may be harder to dose for, but it doesn’t mean we can’t master the bolus and enjoy our slices in the process.

While there is an extra logistical component to travelling with type one diabetes, there is also the emotional. Meet Savannah Johnson, founder of Type 1 Way Ticket Travel. Her mission is to provide international travel experiences to teens and young adults, while providing the tools and resources to conquer the obstacles that may come with it.
