Let’s play a quick game of ‘put your finger down’..
Put a finger down if you’ve ever looked at your nutrition, exercise or lifestyle habits and said “I just need to ___”
Put a finger down if when we mention the word “health”, you automatically think of “nutrition and exercise”
Put a finger down if you’ve heard the saying “doing something for 21 days creates a habit”, you’ve tried that, and it failed…
How many fingers do you have left up?
Inside this episode we have Kelsie Jene. Kelsie helps her clients clear up confusion with nutrition, exercise and behavior change so they can get back to focusing on what matters most- embracing life! With 10+ years of industry experience and 1000s of humans served, Kelsie is skilled in spotting the bullshit before you step in it, keeping you focused on what’s MOST important while working towards your goals.
Kelsie has her MBA is in Human Performance (Nutrition, Exercise and Behavior research,) so she is here to teach you new tools, reinforce sound principles, and give the adaptable strategy you need to stop settling for a weight-focused lifestyle when you mean to pursue WELL-BEING.
Why is it so easy for us to jump to quick fixes but hard to try the sustainable changes?
Behavior change is most common when we reach a point of frustration – whether it’s frustration in our blood sugars not cooperating around meal times, or frustration that our Dexcom alarms keep us from remaining present in the moment. When this frustration hits, it’s common to want the quickest solution especially in a generation where 30 second transformations are in every other video we see. The important thing to remember is that quick fixes do not correlate with long term health and behavior change on a subconscious level takes time.
Why is wellness more than just nutrition & exercise?
Looking at the social determinants of health helps us consider the additional factors that influence health and wellness. According to this model, nutrition and exercise combined make up 15% of a healthy lifestyle. Why is this? Because other factors such as stress management, access to health care, financial health, environment and so much more. Focusing on health with a 360 degree lens allows us to feel healthy on a bigger scale.
Why is the concept of “It takes 21 days to build a habit” not true?
Despite what’s said on the internet, “21 days to build a habit” is not scientifically backed. In reality, because behavior change happens on a subconscious level, it can take up to six months to shift a behavior to a desired one. Instead of becoming discouraged when it takes longer to change an outcome, it’s important to remember that true sustainable change takes time.
