Pre-bolusing can be an incredible tool, but is it the end-all-be-all? Let’s be real, life happens. We eat dinner at a restaurant and we can’t gauge when our food will be delivered. The holidays come up and dinner is at the table before you know it. You’re cooking and next thing you know it your meal is sitting right in front of you. As amazing of a tool pre-bolusing can be, it’s not always practical.
Your baselines are the backbone of your blood sugar management. If your basal rates, carb ratios, and correction factors aren’t fine tuned – any pre-bolus or nutrition strategy you try to implement just won’t matter.

Planning meals with kids can be tricky and with Type 1 Diabetes we know how important meals are for blood sugar control, energy levels plus quality family time. As a young adult woman diagnosed with type one diabetes, the only advice I received around my menstrual cycle and blood sugars was “you may see more resistance around your period”, but it wasn’t until coming off hormonal birth control about ten months ago that I really started to dive in deeper to the hormonal cycle and how it impacted my management.
